I stand up in front of people the whole time and know how difficult it is to keep their attention… You both did it so naturally, yet very professionally.

Courses for Schools

Staff, Teens & Parents Courses

We offer a range of courses in schools. The aim of our courses is to improve the relationship between adults and teenagers and the framework is Emotional Literacy. We can offer a wide variety of courses to suit your school from whole staff inset presentations for a couple of hours, to workshops with specific smaller groups of staff. We can offer short talks to parents of teenage or pre-teenage children, to help prepare and support parents at this time. We also work with groups of students to help them to understand their developing personalities, behaviour and the most effective way of communicating with adults and friends and how to better manage problems.

Staff Inset Presentations

We offer short (2/3 hour) Staff Inset Presentations, which are designed to offer staff an opportunity to:

Full Staff Courses

We offer tailor-made courses depending on the needs of your school (full day/half day). We can target specific working relationships and tailor-make workshops aimed at establishing strategies for specific groups (Dept Heads/Teachers/Pastoral staff/Students/Parents) and covering specific issues, for instance leadership qualities and styles of communication which might improve working relationships within that area. The aim is to raise self-awareness and improve communication and behaviour throughout schools, through incremental learning.

Teen and Pre-Teen Courses

Janey and Naella teaching in school

We run courses for students from Year 7. The aim of our work is to help students with their relationships, handling problems and dealing with stress. Through better understanding their behaviour, communication and what is going on inside their brains students become more self aware. Feedback from students includes "feeling more in control", "more able to sort problems and disagreements", feeling better about making decisions", "coping better with stress" and "being able to calm myself down", which has resulted in "increased confidence". Our aim is that students are better equipped to manage pressures, problems and feel confident in their quest for independence.

Short Talks for Parents

We offer short “talks” for parents which can be focused on specific issues and would help raise parents awareness to the transitions their children might be undergoing at different stages throughout school.

The aim of these talks is for parents of teen and pre-teenage children to raise their awareness to both communication within their own family relationship and how this links to behavior. We do this through developing a heightened sensitivity to the emotional and physiological needs of their pre-adolescent, or adolescent child. A short one hour talk could be offered to parents when they might be in school anyway, for instance before a Parent/Teacher meeting.

Full Courses for Parents

Our longer courses (normally 2 day or 2 evening) can be offered to groups of parents in schools. The focus of our day or evening Courses is on improving relationships with teenagers. It is not group therapy and there is no requirement to divulge anything personal. We cover a wide range of topics and our material is a blend of scientific evidence, psychology and personal research. We look at changes in the teenage brain as well as a couple of psychological theories in order to enhance an understanding of changing behaviour and communication styles. We bring all this alive and make it relevant to parents through examples, offering opportunities for participants to interact, reflect and discuss alternative ways to handle real life situations with their teenagers. The aim is to learn, understand, hone your skills and look forward.
